Melanie Yunger has been a Registered Nurse since 1993 and a Nurse Practitioner since 2005. Over the years, I have trained extensively to guide my patients toward wellness, with my learning focusing on holistic medicine. I am always seeking out more learning opportunities to further my knowledge on holistic care. I hold certifications in Lifestyle Medicine and Digestive Medicine and taught Human Nutrition at Mid-America Nazarene University for six years while practicing as a Nurse Practitioner. I am also in the process of becoming certified as a Functional Medicine Provider.

Bio-identical hormone replacement can be beneficial for various reasons. Whether you're looking to improve fertility, balance hormones, or address menopausal symptoms, bio-identical hormones may be a good option for you.

Natural hormones are bio-identical to the molecules produced by the human body. These plant-based hormones are synthesized in a lab to match the exact structure of human hormones, making them well-tolerated by the body. Since bio-identical hormones are recognized at a cellular level, the body doesn’t reject them, which helps prevent unwanted side effects. When balanced with bio-identical hormones, many people experience a renewed sense of vitality.

In contrast, synthetic hormones are what modern western medicine is using as the “standard of care” despite their shortcomings. As early as the 1960s, pharmaceutical manufacturers recognized that synthetic hormones were not providing the same benefits as natural hormones. Synthetic hormones, such as Premarin, Prempro, and oral contraceptives, are hormone analogs—substances that are not naturally produced by the human body. Statistics show that about 60% of women experience side effects from commercial hormone replacement therapy (HRT), leading many to discontinue treatment altogether. These side effects occur because the body doesn't recognize synthetic hormones and can't use them properly. Common side effects from these synthetic versions include, but are not limited to, stress-related chronic diseases, facial hair, acne, migraines, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, allergies, and fibromyalgia.

In my practice, I focus on the individual and their unique needs. Along with bio-identical hormone replacement therapy, I strongly believe that what we put into our bodies and on our bodies also affects our hormones. This belief is backed by extensive research. Hormones and the phytochemicals in plant-based foods play a crucial role in health and vitality.  I take a holistic approach to include lifestyle and diet modifications along with the potential addition of bio-identical hormones to help restore mind, body and spirit for optimal vitality.

I would love the opportunity to work with you!
